EP – 142 Older Job Seekers

Our monthly one on one conversation

This month, I discuss some thoughts about being an older job hunter. You might be looking for work because of burnout, no further advancement opportunities, or layoffs. Whatever your particular case may be, we have repeatedly seen and been told that job hunting in your 50s and 60s can be more challenging than when you were younger.

Well, job hunting no matter what age you are can be challenging. Remember when you were young, and people were not hiring you because you didn’t have experience? Now, you think people are not hiring you because you are too experienced. The truth is somewhere in the middle, and there are challenges no matter what age you are with either finding a job in your present industry or switching industries altogether.

In this month’s conversation, I discuss some ideas I have learned from talking and working with career coaches and a book I recently read called, Over The Hill But Not The Cliff, by Lori B. Rassas. Lori shares five valuable strategies for job seekers 50 years old and older in this book.

Once you have listened to this conversation, please share it with three friends or family members that could benefit from hearing about looking for meaningful work in your 50s and beyond.
