Film as a Bridge in Family Relationships – EP 215

Allan Shedlin joins us again for another engaging conversation. As Allan and I talked about being a grandfather, he reflected on the profound influence of his grandfather on his parenting style and the evolution of relationships between parents and their adult children.

Allan shares anecdotes about his grandfather’s calm demeanor and the importance of being present in children’s lives. Our discussion also introduces one of Allan’s great passions, The Daddying Film Festival and Form, or D3F for short. The Film Festival is an initiative to foster connections between fathers and their children through film. Many of these films highlight the significance of shared experiences and discussions in family dynamics.

We delve into the Daddying Film Festival and Forum, exploring its evolution, the engagement of youth in film judging, and the surprises encountered during its first three years. I ask Allan about the highlights of the film festival, and he talks about the festival’s logistics, plans, and the various categories for film submissions, emphasizing the importance of father involvement. Allan also talks about memorable films from past festivals showcasing the emotional and impactful stories that resonate with audiences.

Please share this information with any young filmmakers or adults who would like to try their hand at either creating a movie or evening being on the panel to review the films.
